Antigua Aduana, San José. Costa Rica (proposed location)
The project establishes itself as a figurative "framework" for the individual, enabling an approach to epimeleia put into practice. The proposal promotes self-care, understood here as access to self-knowledge, attempting to turn the gaze of urban beings toward those places marked by absence, pain, and a lack of self-care. It exposes the exterior reality but seeks to confront it from within — from the person, from their most basic need.
Epimeleia is defined within the project as taking action for those living on the streets who are seeking new opportunities — with the aim of transforming individuals, but also the city itself: creating new codes, cultivating the individual, harvesting for society. Making the person who cares for themselves into someone different — someone who rises out of the everyday routine of life.
While the object of epimeleia is oneself, its ultimate purpose is not the self alone, but the surrounding environment reached through it. The imperative of caring for oneself becomes, in turn, an imperative "for others."
