Atom's design philosophy is defined when the architect is conceived as the conduit between the ether and the material plane. As a result, what is expressed in the process of design through concept, theory and understanding of sacred geometry as hidden information; allows the habitant to permeate within in a humanist and cognitive relationship between the space and its surroundings.

“As an architect, I need a clear direction — to define the kind of architecture I want to put forward, and let that conviction guide my design.
I believe in regenerative design: architecture that builds relationships between the needs of its surroundings and the intentional, lived experiences of the proposal.
I think in terms of a humanized approach, where the object embraces the human experience and necessity.
I propose a cognitive model — one in constant dialogue between the materials and the habitant.
Emptiness doesn't exist — one must learn to discover and see what space offers and can become.”
Fernando graduates as licensed in Architecture from the University of Costa Rica. With outstanding academic achievement and performance, he found his balance venturing through the coastlines of the Americas surfing and later exploring abroad in a conquest of the sky as a professional skydiver.
Dedicating part of his life to the endeavors of high risk but high focused disciplines, allowed him to explore and connect in ways that few can understand. An intense relationship with nature and cultures around the world, Fernando will find correlation between the observed and his nature of design and architecture. As a world traveler, surfing and flying athlete; one will find direct ways to nurture an approach in design and human relationships; accessing the proper tools to propose integral solutions.
A Costa Rican and Spanish citizen, who lived in countries such as: U.S.A, Poland, Germany, Spain, Finland and Austria finds his ways back to his home roots in Costa Rica, Playa Guiones where he opens a small Architectural Firm by name of ATOM.
An atom is the smallest building block of all matter in the universe known to mankind. Within the Atom we can find the neutron & the proton, the seed; the starting point and in its surroundings defined by the electron fields.
ATOM is the reflection of many experiences, higher education, surf trips, skydiving and tunnel flying endeavors. All of them becoming those building blocks, those seeds and those fields, materialized through the tools of architecture in order to produce highly personalized and tailored approach to design.
What We Do
Site and climate analysis, conceptual framework and construction documents. Grounded in surroundings, light, and material.
Spatial and material planning that carries the concept from façade to finish. The interior responds to the exterior and vice versa; it's an architects obligation to approach every aspect of a given project.
Renderings and walkthroughs that communicate a project before it's built.
Permitting due process from start to finish for any given project. On-site oversight to ensure the built work stays true to the design intent.
The team is consolidated by a multidisciplinary system that works hand in hand with structural and electromechanical engineers.
Professionals that integrate ATOM Architecture are all affiliated with the "CFIA," federal board of engineers and architects of Costa Rica.
